Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends the advantages of family football scholarship and volunteerism in the community. The first family is his youngest of nine children of Lucious and Jessie Semon who grew up on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. He was also one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. The trio made All-America. A year later, in 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the nation's top lineman. Oklahoma was the winner of two National Championships in his three-year tenure as the starter. Third scholarship he was named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a degree in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering during his college years. In Tampa He played with the Buccaneers over nine years and was an all-pro. Also, he began a career in business. In 1988 he became an account liaison officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's top 10 young males. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in the height department and weighed 256 pounds at the time he played in college. He captained the 1975 team. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as an assistant director of sports. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. He was also named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. He and his parents Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor of Oklahoma who conferred this award.
